The Afternoon Library

There is a growing shift in how we think about our homes. Increasingly, we are moving away from spaces designed for display towards interiors that feel deeply personal. The Afternoon Library captures this transition with remarkable restraint. Its collections resist trend-driven design in favour of forms that feel enduring, tactile and quietly expressive.

What makes the brand compelling is its understanding that a home is never built all at once. It is assembled gradually, through objects collected over time. Each addition carries a story—of where it came from, who made it, or the moment it entered our lives. The Afternoon Library approaches curation with this sensibility, presenting pieces that feel capable of existing across seasons rather than belonging to one.

Founded by Eshita Marwah, the brand is an extension of a journey that has been equally considered. Trained as an electronics engineer with a postgraduate degree from the University of Pennsylvania, she began her career in analog circuit design in Boston before returning to India in 2014 to pursue a lifelong creative instinct. She went on to establish by e & co., an interior design practice with projects spanning New York, Goa and New Delhi, where her engineering background continues to inform a thoughtful balance between structure and aesthetics. The Afternoon Library emerged later as a natural evolution of this philosophy—a home brand shaped by her love for art, travel, books and everyday rituals.

Its visual language reflects this sensibility. Neutral palettes, organic textures and an appreciation for natural materials allow every object to breathe. There is an absence of excess; nothing competes for attention. Instead, the collection invites a slower way of looking, encouraging us to appreciate the nuances of form, craftsmanship and imperfection.

At its core, The Afternoon Library creates pieces intended to grow older alongside the people who live with them, gathering memories in much the same way a favourite chair, a well-thumbed journal or a familiar painting eventually becomes inseparable from the home itself.

Perhaps this is why the brand feels less like a conventional homeware label and more like its namesake—a library. Not of books, but of objects that accumulate stories over time. Each shelf becomes an archive of lived experience, each table setting a reflection of the people who gather around it.

In an age where consumption often favours speed and novelty, The Afternoon Library reminds us of the value of choosing with intention. As Eshita describes it, the brand is born from the places she has travelled to, the stories she has carried back and the art that has shaped her along the way—offered outward as a small, thoughtful piece of her world, waiting to find a place in someone else's.

Because a well-designed home is never about filling a room. It is about finding pieces that make you want to stay a little longer.
