Wasted Wrld

Fashion has trained itself to hide its own construction, seams pressed flat, edges tucked out of sight, finish treated as the whole point. Wasted Wrld, a contemporary fashion label rooted in Indian craftsmanship, was built on the opposite instinct, a brutalist design philosophy that treats the unfinished edge and the raw seam not as a mistake to be hidden but as the entire point of looking closely at all.

Founded in 2023 by Abhay Rawat, the label carries an unconventional path into fashion from the outset. With a background in mechanical engineering and over a decade spent working as a fashion model, Abhay came to design entirely self taught, beginning his studies during the pandemic in 2019, guided by curiosity and instinct rather than formal convention. Having worked with designers including Shantanu & Nikhil and Gaurav Gupta, alongside international labels such as Pronounce in Milan, Antik Batik in Paris and Loewe, he built a working fluency in global craftsmanship and construction long before he put his own name on a label, the kind of foundation that later caught the attention of ELLE, GQ and Vogue. His engineering training shows up in a precise approach to structure, fit and construction, while his design instinct leans fully into imperfection, texture and emotion, the two rarely pulling in the same direction and the tension between them becoming, in effect, the brand's signature.

That tension defines every collection: Indian aesthetics merged deliberately with Japanese silhouettes, natural fabrics including handloom cotton, Eri silk, linen, wool and denim, worked in close collaboration with artisans and karigars from South India, Bihar and Himachal Pradesh. Pieces like the Nirav jacket, the Neer and Sadei dresses, the Khait and Kora jackets and the Garuda dress wear their unfinished edges and industrial detailing like signatures, not accidents, silhouettes built to outlast a season rather than perform for one. The brand's most recent collection, Sumeru, draws its narrative from the folklore of Jeetu Bagdwal of the Khait Parvat, continuing a pattern the label returns to often, grounding each release in a specific, researched story rather than an abstract mood board assembled after the fact.

Positioned somewhere between ready to wear and sustainable luxury, Wasted Wrld ultimately reads as a study in material honesty, a belief that clothing, much like people, grows more beautiful as it weathers rather than less. Every piece becomes a dialogue between maker and wearer, past and present, refinement and rawness, built to evolve with time and use rather than be quietly replaced by whatever comes along next season.
