House of Things
Udaipur
In a city resplendent with royal residences and shimmering man-made lakes, House of Things finds its physical presence in a 25,000 square foot space following a thriving online marketplace since 2015. Founded by Astha and Manan Khetan, siblings-in-law, who share a vision for celebrating authentic and handcrafted designs, the brand curates an elevated selection of furniture, art, home accessories, décor, and collectables. The gallery’s entrance is marked by a pristine white façade, with the rest of the structure evoking the warmth of a private residence, framed by potted greens and architectural quietude. Far from a conventional showroom, the space is conceived as a lived-in expression of what a home could be or look like when shaped by designs that are guided by intention and meaning. Often described as a dynamic design bazaar, the gallery is composed of a series of interconnected micro-stores that avoid a linear path. It’s as if each space you enter offers an entirely new experience—the sense of place shifts dramatically from one room to the next. Themed individually, one moment, you might find yourself in a grounded, contemplative corner that evokes stillness and seriousness; the next, you stumble upon a playful, vibrant nook that instantly lifts your mood. The rooms capture the spirit of what their names imply. For instance, the Desert Rose Room, conceived by Feroze Gujral, brings together golden tones and soft blush hues in a warm, ethereal palette. At its centre sits the Rosaline Dining Table, a sculptural masterpiece in pink onyx with a brass-clad base, designed by New York- and Delhi-based designer Kriti Chaudhary. In contrast, the Pichwai Room shifts the atmosphere entirely. Dedicated to traditional Pichwai artworks displayed as collectables, it radiates reverence for the craft. Rich, deeper tones dominate; grey textured walls ground the space, while moody lighting casts a contemplative glow, allowing the grandeur of the paintings to speak. Additional collaborative spaces include The Apartment, curated by Rhea Kapoor and Ravi Vazirani, and Chroma Casa by Maria Lozano — further enriching the gallery’s offerings. A fashion atelier showcases wearable art from brands like Péro and Looms of Ladakh, while a bar at the far end invites visitors to unwind and socialise. In galleries like House of Things, it's evident that design spaces are no longer purely transactional or purely artistic, but a hybrid that responds to evolving consumer desires.
