Diagonally across the iconic Crowne Plaza hotel in RA Puram, Chennai is Chamiers – a multi-storeyed building with a cafe, boutique store, exhibit room and a curated gift shop - which offers a space for an eclectic mix of urban pastimes. A collaboration between Kiran Road (of Amethyst) and Mathangi Srinivasmurti, the Chamiers multi-boutique is situated in a renovated 20th-century bungalow and takes its name from the road it is located on. On the ground floor, Jaipur-based brand Anokhi displays its splendid collection of contemporary pieces with Indian motifs across handcrafted apparel, textiles, furnishings and accessories. Started over half a century ago, Anokhi is known to work with skilled craftsmen in villages around Jaipur, reviving the traditional craft of block printing using hand-carved wooden blocks. Next to the boutique is the Amethyst Room – an exhibit space for hosting various events like book launches and trunk shows by Indian designers.
