Nestled in Mumbai’s industrial hub Sewri, design house Splendour Living’s store is a capsule of creativity and luxury. Renovating a vacant warehouse, the Splendour Living store merges the old with new with bespoke design pieces standing against the space’s raw industrial look. The coldness of exposed beams and steel girders is counterpoised with the lush greenery of indoor plants and colour-blocked furniture pieces in the main gallery area. The 14,000 square foot space is divided into a display area for collector’s pieces, a workshop and prototyping space for the team, an experimental kitchen and a race shop for racing car maintenance and a suspended wooden cabin on the first level that makes for a private meeting room with clients. The store’s outdoor area is converted into a quiet veranda with a gazebo and leafy greens, offering a moment of solace. Founded in 1991, Splendour Living makes custom pieces that includes furniture, home decor, carpets and more. The brand’s creations are a confluence of cutting-edge designs and vintage art – making them one-of-a-kind collectibles. The space is designed by architect Nyishi Parekh and curated by designer Thierry Betancourt with pieces spanning from a 20th century coffee table to Splendour’s own collection. One piece that stands out is the house’s Interference table – made from solid marble to look like ripples on a water surface – juxtaposing movement and stillness.
