Shivani Parasnis
A skilled graphic artist whose works are underscored by bright contrasts and dynamic graphical elements
Through her works, graphic artist Shivani Parasnis explores innovative and exciting ways of illustration, branding, typeface, and print design. They are marked by vibrant colours and dynamic forms that assert Parasnis’s unique ability to draw inspiration from diverse sources and synthesize them into cohesive designs. A multi-faceted artist, Parasnis draws inspiration from multiple sources - from vintage Indian patterns, old photographs, and text on promotional flyers to hand-drawn signboards and David Judd’s furniture designs. Currently an art director at Spotify, Shivani pursued an MFA in Graphic Design at the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA). Shaped consecutively by her personal and professional journey, there’s a distinct leitmotif to her design language - balancing the free-flowing nature of creativity with the discipline of Science. The playfulness and energy that her designs instil can be attributed to Indian melodies Parasnis grew up listening to, sung by her mother. Meanwhile, her attention to detail, rationality, and innate curiosity stem from her background in Biotechnology. Additionally, her artistic expressions constantly aim to bridge her childhood days spent in Mumbai with her current life in Brooklyn NY encapsulating the evolving concept of ‘home’. Notably showcased in her expertise, this aspect expands to multiple languages in her typographic practice including Latin, Southeast Asian and Indic scripts. They can be found embodying graphical appearances, transcending linguistic and traditional communicative roles. Since then, the artist has been featured in well-known publications including the New York Times and WIRED, alongside several awards and exhibitions.
