Anuradha Bhaumick
The talented embroidery artist whose muses turn into mesmerizing portraits of daily life
Anuradha Bhaumick is an embroidery artist whose works are not just decorations or patterns sewn on a cloth but visually captivating poems that enliven the melancholic muslins and poplins. Wooden hoops create a haven for the artist’s imagination, cultivated into embroideries that have otherwise been stigmatized as a ‘pastime’ activity. Anuradha fell in love with needlework at a very young age after her mother, a master embroiderer herself, introduced her to a few techniques. Inspired by themes of relaxation and reading, the artist now creates breathtaking pieces and one cannot help but marvel–and have found homes across the globe, spanning the Bahamas to Australia, Germany to Japan. Kurta cut-outs and leftover fabrics are collaged with embroidered lush foliage, detailed interiors, and people around their favorite things engaged in everyday activities (her muse) - and an exquisite portrait of daily life emerges. Anuradha's works have been featured in several acclaimed publications and have also collaborated with brands like OnePlus, Araku Coffee, Purpose Climate Lab, etc. —alongside art shows with Method India, Mumbai, and Museo Camera, Gurgaon. Often indulged as a remedy to her anxieties and anger, Anuradha’s flair for embroidery is an inspiration to anyone who wants to brave society’s archaic notions and turn their passion into something extraordinary.
