Atyaan Jungalwala
This determined gallerist is maneuvering her family’s legacy to create a space for young artists
Atyaan Jungalwala is a Mumbai-based gallerist and founder of Chemould CoLab who aims to bridge the gap between breakthrough young artists and the spaces representing them. Nurtured in a family that helmed one of the first exhibition spaces of prominent artists in India, it was almost natural for Atyaan to carry on the legacy and chart a path within the milieu of art. Through her program, she caters to young artists from various fields while simultaneously mentoring and cultivating a new generation of collectors, writers, and curators to build a harmonious ecosystem between both entities. Her background and tenacious passion for exhibitions and spatial design distill as intrinsic concepts for Chemould CoLab—it pushes the boundaries of contemporary art, fosters and encourages experimentation among artists, and creates a home for their innovative projects outside of traditional white cube galleries. So far, Chemould CoLab has worked with artists like Vinita Mungi, Gurjeet Singh, Rithika Pandey, and Tarini Sethi and has also taken part in the India Art Fair, held in February 2023. In the coming months, Atyaan aims to work with a host of new artists and expand the community of the viewers of art and its makers–bolstering the zest of her family legacy and blurring the boundaries between art and design.
