Sahil Behal
The immaculate photographer whose visual storytelling is both refreshing and a work of art
A culture, lifestyle, and fashion photographer, Sahil Behal’s creative compositions are in tune with the latest aesthetics, yet they don't stray away from the truth. Alongside his imagination, he will reckon with the unique and individualistic essence of people and their surroundings. They brew succinctly into Sahil’s photographs and create a beautiful juxtaposition between man-made compositions and reality. Having collaborated on several commercial projects within India and abroad, Behal started with food and interior photography until he forged a niche within fashion. Maneuvered by analog film formats–a dominant medium in his works–Sahil experimented with black and white photos before he slowly transitioned into the dynamic and lively world of colors. Through analog’s distinguished ability to capture subtle details and color contrasts Sahil’s portraits and landscapes are a unique and sound interplay of lights and shadows, offsetting his subjects magnificently. His ‘The Fall of Man’ photo series picks out narratives from several determining spheres of the real world such as politics, religion, mythology, queer identities, and Indian streetwear, and insinuates a harmonious merger of these in a post-apocalyptic world. Today, as his works make their way into acclaimed publications like Vogue, Cosmopolitan, and The Journal, and brands such as Lovebirds, Bodice, Leh Studio, Kunal Rawal, and many more–Sahil’s journey is an ever-evolving process. Alongside mainstream works, he doesn't forget to explore personal themes and his métier of creating surreal imageries.
