Based in New Delhi, designer Vikram Goyal is celebrated for his sculptural reinterpretation of traditional Indian metalcraft—particularly repoussé brass—transformed into bold and contemporary forms. His works stand out as a rare harmony between instinct and intention—works born from creative impulse, yet honed through a meticulous, process-driven approach. In several pieces, geometry finds its place alongside fluidity, where lines and forms are shaped more by intuition than by rigid precision. An engineer by training with a degree in Development Economics from Princeton University, Vikram Goyal worked in finance in the USA and Hong Kong. After the brief stint, he returned back to India and established his brand in 2003. Over the past two decades, he has cultivated a distinctly contemporary design language within the global collectible market—shaped by influences such as architects, product designers, and master artisans who continue to anchor his practice. While Vikram Goyal’s silhouettes carry a globally resonant language, they remain deeply rooted in Indian heritage. Now synonymous with his signature style, his body of work spans limited-edition furniture and objects crafted from both cast and sheet metal—dialled up in both scale and intricacy. Through his brand Viya, Vikram draws on age-old techniques like repoussé, pietra dura, and hollowed joinery—brought to life through close collaboration with generational artisans who anchor the studio’s craftsmanship. Each piece features intricate reliefs inspired by nature, mythology, Indian observatories, aerial landscapes, banyan roots, and brutalist forms—ranging from mirrors, dining and coffee tables to wall panels, cabinets, and sculptural bar counters. Many of his pieces are adorned with semi-precious stones like malachite, lapis lazuli, and amethyst—adding depth, texture, and a quiet opulence. Celebrated by international platforms such as Nilufar Gallery in Milan, The Future Perfect in the USA, PAD London, Design Miami 2024, and the India Art Fair (2023–2025), Vikram’s work offers a compelling example for emerging artists and designers—proving that creative clarity and intention can be just as powerful as formal training in earning lasting recognition.
