In the heart of Pali Village, where heritage homes meet Mumbai’s vibrant café culture, Call of the Valley stands as a refuge for the senses. Founded in 2019 by Jean-Christophe Bonnafous, whose journey to India began with the flute, the perfumery was born from an unexpected encounter—the heady scent of ‘raat ki rani’ lingering in Mumbai’s lanes. After over  decade as a senior disciple of flute maestro Pandit Hariprasad Chaurasia, Jean sought a deeper connection with nature, leading him to create Call of the Valley as an ode to slow living and mindful self-care. Marked by its glass exterior and vintage-esque typography reading ‘Natural Perfumes’, the space exudes warmth and nostalgia. Inside, a curated selection of perfume oils, floral waters, face creams, serums, candles, and incense sits alongside bespoke fragrances—each crafted with the purity of natural ingredients and a customization process that ensures they feel uniquely yours. The interiors are thoughtfully laid out with wooden structures, open shelves, and glass cases, each element designed to showcase the products under warm, well-placed lighting. The space feels intimate yet uncluttered, inviting slow discovery—allowing you to linger, explore, and find something that truly feels yours—the store’s soft illumination allowing it to stand out amidst its surroundings. However, it’s the founder’s personal journey—his fascination with the parallels between fragrance and music—that adds another layer of intrigue. His notions that both are ephemeral, lingering momentarily before fading, their notes weaving a rhythmic dance. This poetic interplay makes a visit to Call of The Valley all the more compelling.
