Chorus
Mumbai
In the historic lanes of Mumbai’s Kala Ghoda, where art institutions, colonial façades, and cultural memory intersect, Moonray’s original showroom makes way for Chorus, a multidisciplinary space that brings together fashion, craft, architecture, and food under one roof. Founded by mother-daughter duo Karishma and Avantika Swali, the three-floored showroom marks an evolution of the label’s ethos, extending its long-standing commitment to Indian textile traditions into a more plural, layered experience. Far from being just a showroom, Chorus helms the brand’s philosophy into spatial and material expression. From floors and walls to the smallest decorative elements, the space is almost like a study in how contemporary brands use physical environments as an extension of identity—an embodiment that runs through every vein of the architecture. At ground level, visitors are welcomed into Chorus Concept, a mini gallery defined by geometric marble inlays underfoot. The space showcases works by recent Chanakya School of Craft graduates, highlighting experimental approaches to traditional weaving techniques.

From here on, when taken as a whole, the environment of Chorus unravels as an ocular journey in itself, a study of how contrasts in material, texture, and layout converge and create a cohesive narrative, regardless. It aptly mirrors the design sensibility of the brand’s collections, with the palette flowing naturally from garment to interior, its tonal mood seamlessly absorbed into the architecture. Shelled in warm, grounding hues, with pristine white playing a central role, the store evokes a neutral landscape that immediately establishes calm. However, within this tranquil brews a rich, harmonic interplay of colour, shape and form. Tactile interruptions appear through sculptural, undulating decor elements: deep oxblood tiling, Brazilian marble backdrops, plush seating washed in cerulean and buttery yellow, and rugs that—when viewed individually—might read as playful or dopamine-driven but camouflage sublimely into the space. Among the more striking decor elements are the hand-blown glass chandeliers, composed of varied organic forms that make their appearance in each room—idiosyncratic in construction yet composed in form and colour. Returning to the ground floor, the pared-back gallery transitions into the Ready-to-Wear section, which is notably denser, more colourful, and visually animated. Here, intentionally simple neutral surfaces recede, allowing the garments to take centre stage. Jewellery is introduced with equal intention—high-end earrings and bracelets sit alongside a playful selection of keychains, all displayed on a marble console. Chanakya artisans make their presence felt once more through a custom-designed, handwoven carpet, grounding the space in craftsmanship while reinforcing the brand’s deep-rooted dialogue between tradition and contemporary design. Ascending to the first floor, Chorus Wellness unfolds as a modern apothecary. A central marble table holds almond-milk soaps, therapeutic oils, and hand-poured candles, while surrounding racks continue the fashion narrative with garments from collections such as Other Worlds alongside curated accessories. The second floor houses Chorus Edition, the made-to-measure atelier, where generational artisans translate centuries-old embroidery techniques into contemporary couture. A mural-sized textile artwork anchors the space, while marble tables stacked with books on textile history extend the atelier into a site of learning and dialogue. The café completes the experience by translating textile logic into food. Dishes borrow form from weaving patterns, served on handmade clay and blown-glass tableware. An artwork titled The Offering, depicting stitched hands, hangs above as an understated homage to the act of making. Structured as a six-course progression, the café’s High Tea service transforms craft into ritual. In a city witnessing a surge of concept stores, Chorus distinguishes itself by moving beyond retail as spectacle. By collapsing the boundaries between atelier, gallery, wellness space, and café, it proposes a slower, more engaged way of encountering Indian craft, one that values process, plurality, and presence within the evolving landscape of contemporary retail in India.
