Housed in a centuries-old Portuguese villa near Fort Kochi in Kerala, One Zero Eight by Save The Loom is a multi-brand concept store that celebrates the tale of handmade in India. Launched as a popup in 2019, the now-permanent store was born from the idea of paying tribute to 700 female artisans whose looms were destroyed in floods. Keeping the legacy going, the store’s wooden elements are restored using the repurposed frames from the wrecked looms. Bathing the entire structure in a golden aura, the afternoon sunlight pours in through the old teakwood doors and perfectly synced windows creating a mesmerising ambiance. Spread across two floors, the villa’s small rooms transform into modern retail spaces for homegrown labels Suket Dhir, Antar Agni, Pero, Naushad Ali, 11.11 and more. Shoppers can browse handloom sarees, kurtas, dresses and accessories like bags, scarves and jewellery at One Zero Eight. The store also hosts popups and exhibitions to encourage conversations around art, craft, design and fashion, all while shining the spotlight on the artisanal community of Kerala. The villa’s courtyard is transformed into a garden restaurant where visitors can sit to grab a bite amidst a shopping break. Founded by Ramesh Menon and Alpi Boylla of Save The Loom, the One Zero Eight store is the perfect place to discover the country’s heritage textiles and artisanal prowess.
