Founded almost two decades ago by French illustrator and designer Thierry Journo, Idli is a celebration of East meets West where traditional Indian craftsmanship intertwines with French elegance. Thierry began his career as a copyist at Louvre, collaborated with designers like Thierry Mugler and Andree Putman, and as an illustrator with John Galliano. He came to India in 2006 and fell in love with the country’s vibrant culture and style, and has been living in Jaipur ever since. Having worked with luxury fashion all his life, Thierry brings a certain je ne sais quoi to India with Idli. More than just a brand, the Idli store is a manifestation of Thierry’s dreams that come alive through a curated collection of womenswear and menswear, furnishings, textiles, crockery and more. A pathway adorned with cobblestones leads to the store's entrance, bordered by majestic palm trees on both sides - mirroring the motif found within each doorway throughout the store. With all-white walls and ivory marble floors serving as a canvas, the brand’s colourful merchandise and playful decor make the store reminiscent of a circus tent. From trompe l’oeil canopies to tropical foliage hand painted on the walls and colourful paper lanterns hanging from the ceiling, each room transports visitors to a world of vivid imagination. Focusing more on eternal style as compared to fleeting trends, Thierry’s collections are seasonless with some iconic prints a part of the brand since its inception.
