From hand-painted saris to intricately embroidered outerwear
The term heirloom-worthy fashion almost instantly brings to mind a heavily-embroidered ensemble or an ornate, multi-layered necklace. While such pieces are still preserved and passed down to future generations, heirlooms can take many forms today. They can look like an item born out of designer collaboration, a separate that celebrates the country’s crafts, a hand-painted sari that can never be replicated in its entirety, a silk lehenga that took several man-hours to make or a one-of-a-kind accessory which was created in limited quantities. Wondering where you can find fashion that grows in value as time passes? We studied the collections of several coveted homegrown labels and designers–Anu Merton, Misho and Patine to name a few–and rounded up 10 articles that we consider collectibles. Scroll down to shop finds that you’ll cherish for decades to come.
